Celebrating the adoption of the US flag on June 14, 1777, Flag Day was created in 1916 but only became known as the National Flag Day in 1949 by Congress. The US Army was established on June 14, 1775 (two years earlier) as the 'American Continental Army' by Congress and continues to be one the LARGEST branch of the United States Military.
