While Army/Marine troops and Army Air Force aircraft stormed ashore and pushed deeper towards the heart of Germany and Japan, it was the US Navy that brought them there and made sure they got there safely. Battleships, freighters, landing craft, Aircraft Carriers, and Naval aircraft paved the way in the pacific theater playing a pivotal role in not only stopping the Japanese fleet from their island hoping charge, but actually reducing it to near nothing after the Battle of Midway. World War 2 for American began and ended with the US Navy as the attack on Pearl Harbor brought us into the war while the end of the war was signed in an unconditional surrender by the Japanese on a US Navy battleship.
