The P-51D Mustang is debated as one of the greatest fighters in human history. Undoubtedly the most popular military fighter aircraft of all time, the P-51 Mustang made history when introduced during World War 2 allowing bombers to head all the way to Berlin and back with fighter escorts. With limited ranges, many fighters were forced to turn back leaving the massive bomber formations on their own against the might of the Luftwaffe. With a range of over 1,600 miles, the P-51D Mustang and it's 'bubble canopy' was a force to be reckoned with. About half of ALL aerial victory claims in the European theater were made with P-51 Mustangs and reportedly made Hermann Goering's (head of the Luftwaffe) famous quote: "When I saw those Mustangs over Berlin, I knew that the war was lost."
