May 8, 1945 marked the Victory in Europe with V-E Day when the Germany Army surrendered and one half of the war finished. It wasn't until a day later that many of the German occupying forces surrendered turning the focus of events to the Pacific Theater and the ongoing push towards Japan. The actual surrender documents were signed on May 7th in France and May 8th in Berlin. May 8th also was President Truman's birthday, who stated that it was the best birthday he'd had.
