The B-17 Flying Fortress is probably one of the most recognizable aircraft of all time. Many would say there's something romantic about this weapon of war that paved the way deep into Germany during World War 2. One of the main reasons it has become such an aviation legend is the B-17 named 'Memphis Belle' which not only was the subject of a documentary during the war but also the first crew to make 25 missions and be sent home to tour the country in the Belle and promote buying war bonds. Over 12,700 B-17s were built during its service life.
